Tell the NJDEP NO!

Game changer happening this Monday night! Let’s do this!  

There is a critical public hearing being held by the NJDEP to address a pipline project that will hook up to PennEast – the Garden State Expansion proposal.  We need thousands of people at this meeting to show NJDEP why this is wrong and show our wide spread opposition.  If the DEP does its job and does not act on the GSE then PE is affected.  More problems for PennEast. 

We are asking everyone to please attend this meeting: 

6 pm,  August 22, 2016, at the Ramada Inn, 1083 US-206, Bordentown, NJ.

Why is this an important action?

It’s vital that we show up at this hearing to demonstrate tremendous public opposition to this expansion because this:

• This is the first real step we can take to fundamentally constrict the system design that PennEast is positioning for their pipeline.
• It is a real time event for us to show DEP, politicians, PE shareholders and the media the massive and united opposition we represent.
• This will shine the light on the cumulative impacts to our safety, drinking water, and property rights that PennEast violates.

This project calls for the expansion of an existing compressor station in Lawrence Township in Mercer County, NJ and the installation of a new compressor station, meter and regulating station on environmentally-sensitive land located in Chesterfield Township in Burlington County, N.J. All of which many experts say is unneeded and harmful!

We are committed to showing up in large numbers to stop this expansion project, an important step to stop or slow the PennEast train from rolling forward.

All groups working to STOP the PennEast project are calling for this action by citizens including: HALT PennEast, Holland Township CAP, Alexandria CAP, Kingwood CAP, Delaware CAP, West Amwell CAP, Lambertville CAP, Hopewell Township CAP, and all the NGO’s are asking all people to attend this meeting!

Urgent, We Need Your Help

FERC’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the PennEast Pipeline is here.

On Friday, July 22, 2016  the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) released a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the proposed PennEast pipeline. There is a very short period for the public to comment – the comment period ends September 12, 2016.

This DEIS is riddled with data gaps and incomplete information. How is it possible for FERC to determine that there are no environmental impacts with so much information missing? The DEIS should be withdrawn until PennEast has submitted all of the required data. With your help, we can act now, comment to the docket and make a public record as well.

It is critical that you act during the next 48 days. 

Between now and September 12, there are a number of actions we must each take to show FERC our profound opposition to this dangerous, unneeded pipeline. We must make our voices heard during this important comment period. There are 2 ways you can help.

Action Item #1 – Please submit comments to the PennEast Docket (#CP15-558-000):

Comment 1 –  Demand that FERC withdraw the DEIS because it is incomplete;

Comment 2 –  Demand that FERC to extend the public comment period until a complete DEIS is available for review; and

Comment 3 –  Comment many times, each time point out a specific problems in the DEIS, including assumptions, missing information, and issues that are either ignored or insufficiently addressed.  NOTE: Need comment topics and help? Comments submitted to FERC during this period become part of the legal record in FERC’s mandatory environmental review. Our goal is to submit as many substantial, fact-based comments as possible. Intervenors’ comments and landowners’ comments carry more weight, and FERC must respond to each relevant comment. However, this is a public comment period so everyone can comment, and there is still time to register as an intervenor is you have not done so.

In your comments to FERC, it is important that you raise as many different points as possible. You should include detailed notes, specific data and unique stories about how you, your family, your community, and your property or business would be impacted by PennEast. 

Action Item #2 – Please attend one or more of the FERC Public Hearings 

FERC will hold six public hearings at which the public can comment on the DEIS. It is critical that as many people as possible attend these hearings.

Support a GAO Review of FERC by sending letters to your state’s representative!

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) operates as a Rubber Stamp on the pipeline infrastructure projects that come before it for review – with FERC approval being a foregone conclusion once the project goes before the FERC Commissioners for their vote. This bias is fueled by the fact that FERC is 100% funded by the pipeline industry and the other industries it is supposed to be independently regulating. In addition, the revolving door between FERC and industry employees strengthens the capture of the agency that fuels the bias. 

Help secure an independent investigation by the Government Accountability Office into the abuses of power, process and law by FERC when it comes to interstate natural gas pipelines, their compressors and LNG export facilities. Write your congressional representative now to urge their help in securing this necessary independent review.
